“Essex’s?” Is that right? It doesn’t look right. But what else could the possessive of Essex be?

This is what people think of when they think about Essex

Essex has an awesome land trust organization with a phenomenal trail guide. In it, they helpfully include the three (more like two-and-a-half) town of Essex properties as well. I’ve mentioned a million times that trying to sort all this stuff out is impossible – and also downright silly. But hey, it’s the hierarchy I settled on years ago, and I can’t change that now.

So here we are: Essex’s Town Trails. Essexes? No. Essexs’? No. How have I never had to think about this before?
