Connecticut’s Wineries and Meaderies
Skip down to The Meaderies & Wine-like Cideries
The Connecticut Wine Trail has been a state sponsored thing for almost as long as CTMQ has been a thing. This has been very good for the state’s wineries, as they’ve had a passport program (with incredible prizes) for many years – and people love passport programs. The number of wineries in Connecticut seems to increase by a few every year or two, and many are sort of destinations; as in, beautiful patios on hillsides at which to enjoy some snacks and wine while watching the sunset destinations.
It’s pretty tough to operate a winery in New England so most local wineries import Chilean or Californian grapes to round out their wines – really no different from brewers using hops from New Zealand or Washington. In fact, grapes and hops from elsewhere are very often superior anyway. Most of my visits linked below were from well over a decade ago, so please forgive any youthful exuberance and/or terrible pictures.

July 8, 2008 at 2:32 pmShame on you, you passed up the best winery in Connecticut! You should visit Connecticut Valley Winery, rt 202 New Hartford Ct. They have the best wine hands down!!!! For the record, they are a part of the wine trail because I visited 2 weeks ago and got my passport stamped.

May 18, 2010 at 10:22 amHi, thanks for the great information that you have posted. I really enjoyed reading.
Just a quick question….a few friends and I want to go to Miranda Vineyards, Sunset Meadow Vineyards and Rosedale Vineyard. How long do you think our excursion will be? Is four hours enough time to spend between the three?
Thanks so much! Look forward to hearing from you.
